Atmel's AT90SC6432R Secure Microcontroller for Impressive Performance at a Cost Effective Price

SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 24, 2001--Atmel® Corporation (Nasdaq:ATML) announced today the production release of the AT90SC6432R, the first ROM based product in its market leading AT90SC family of AVR-based secure microcontrollers for Smart Cards. Suitable for mobile telecomms and Java card applications, its combination of ROM memory and the use of Atmel's dense NVM technology enable it to offer the impressive performance for which the AVR 8 bit RISC core is reputed at an extremely competitive price.

The other significant benefit that the AT90SC6432R offers is that it can be used as an alternative to the AT90SC3232 and AT90SC6464C Flash-based products. This means that in circumstances when flexibility and speed to market are crucial the customer can use either of the above Flash products. However, when or if these criteria cease to become less of a priority, switching to the more economical AT90SC6432R may be more practical.

The AT90SC6432R has 64K bytes of mask ROM, 32K bytes of EEPROM and 2K bytes of RAM. It is compliant with all the following mobile telecomms specifications ETSI GSM11.11, 11.13 and 3G TS 102 221 V3.0.0 (2000-09).

Benoit Makowka, Atmel's marketing manager for Mobile Telecomms Secure ICs commented, ``We are delighted to add this ROM based product to our AVR family of products. The AT90SC6432R extends our overall secure microcontroller portfolio and provides our customers with an excellent but cost effective product for GSM/3G SIM Card solutions.''
